USB Mouse support in kernel 2.4.31

Hi. I have a USB mouse, but it doesn't seem to work in kernel 2.4.31. How can I enable it? I see there is an option in the kernel configuration file for USB mice, and I've enabled it, but it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

It's a little bit complicated to get the USB mouse interface to work. In addition to adding the USB mouse driver in your kernel you also have to add support for human interface device (HID) and SCSI support. Here is an excellent page describing the process. The fact that it comes from the Gentoo site doesn't make it any less applicable to other distributions. This page has instructions for both the 2.4 kernels and the 2.6 kernels. Naturally when it says to get gentoo sources you have to alter that to fit your distribution. Otherwise the Gentoo documentation is an excellent source of information applicable to many Linux situations.

Here's another good source of Linux information from Gentoo.

I tried what the article suggested. Now I can see that the mouse is being detected, but I still can't use it. This is the output from lsusb:

[code]
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 1241:1177 Belkin F8E842-DL Mouse
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Thanks.
