updated kernel with yum....modules?

I allowed yum to do a complete update on my Fedora core 5 system, which included upgrading the kernel from 2.6.15.x to 2.6.18.x. After rebooting, the sound, ethernet, scanner and a few other goodies no longer worked. I'm assuming that I need to make new modules with the new kernel source.

if I do this, and decide to revert to the older 2.6.15.x kernel, will the newer modules work? will it the system still retain the old modules and be able to tell the difference?

TIA

If you revert to the previous Kernel, the modules that already worked and were compiled for it will work (assuming you didnt delete them).

This is true, it's what I'm doing right now. I'm trying to get them to work with the new kernel. Are you saying, go ahead and make new modules with the new kernel source? If I do this will the old modules be replaced?

I guess what I'm looking for is clarification about how the modules are stored and loaded. When I run, make-modules-install, are the new modules kept in a location that is separate from the old ones and does the kernel know which ones to load?
