Thumbs up Unknown symbol unregister_framebuffer

Hi All,

However, WHile installing framebuffer driver for BCM chip in MIPS platform(cross compiled in intel 86).
I am getting the following error.
Can u plz help in this regard?
Thanks in Advance.

> Actually these all symbols are defined in linux/fb.h
While compiling brcmstfb.ko, it is not able to find fb.o to link it.
I think thats why we are getting unknown symbols.
I searched for fb.o but couldn't find it.

# insmod brcmstfb.ko
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol unregister_framebuffer
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol printf
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol __make_dp
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol malloc
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol framebuffer_alloc
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol fb_find_mode
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol fb_dealloc_cmap
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol brcm_dir_entry
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol register_framebuffer
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol fb_alloc_cmap
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol framebuffer_release
brcmstfb: Unknown symbol free

whatever symbol you are using must be present in the kernel
to check this, try

# cat /proc/kallsyms <- this is for 2.6 kernels
and your symbol must appear as

XXXXXXX T <symbol name>

Cannot insert brcmfb.ko: unknown symbol in module

HI All,

Since it is linux cross compiled for MIPS platform in intel 86 box,
i checked there is no "/proc/kallsyms <- this is for 2.6 kernels
and your symbol" to check kernel symbol table.

Any ways i have managed to link the .ko file which had the symbols in the main framebuffer driver.
Now it is not showing any undefined Symbol error.
But is showing "Cannot insert brcmfb.ko: unknown symbol in module(8) no such file or directory"

Can any body throw some more light on this?

Thanks.
