Unable to mount NTFS in Fedora

I am unable to mount a Windows NTFS partition in Fedora core 4. I tried to mount as
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1 -t ntfs
I get "Unknown format ntfs" error.
if i do not use -t option it says "specify the format"
how do i mount it?

Yep, it is a known fact the Red hat /Fedora does not support the filesystem "out of the box" you need to rebuild the kernel with support added or visit; http://www.linux-ntfs.org/
