Sounds Modules

If a system does not have a sound card isntalled, is there any reason to compile/config the sounds modules? On the system, I do a fair amount of avi->mpg conversions, but that all should be done in the codecs right?

if you have no sound card and do not intend to get one you can leave out the sound card support in the kernel config, although you will find that applications like mplayer and xine will give you some error messages when playing video files with sound in them, i have not tried to build either xine or mplayer without sound support to compiling mplayer or xine without sound support in unknown to my experience...
