setting the value of ip_nonlocal_bind to 1

one on the service of pop server was not coming up on RHEL 5, then I make changes with the setting of ip_nonlocal_bind to 1 and then start the service, the service get started. Then I stop the service, revert back the setting of ip_nonlocal_bind to 0 and start the service, the service again get started. I didn't understand how the resetting of the value of "ip_nonlocal_bind" make the service work, effectivly the value of "ip_nonlocal_bind" didn't change.

Any help will be highly appriciated.

When do you se ip_nonlocal_bind? Are you sure that the server starts after all the IP addresses are set OK?

Yes the service get started after setting the value of "ip_nonlocal_bind" with all the ip address was o.k. and the service also responded well for any pop commands like LIST,STAT, and QUIT

Hmm.. I think we need more insight into the reasons why the server doesn't want to start. I don't know which one it is, but you can for sure run it in a more verbose mode (start searching from -vv option).
