SCSI


Hi,
I want to know what is the difference b/w scsi disk and scsi generic(sd and sg). I m in a confusion. Pls help.

Thumbs up it is like it says

scsi disk is just for disk.

generic is for anything.

it is like regular pepsi is only for people who like pepsi,

but the generic kind, most people will find that they like.

Here i saw that no filesystem is needed to access scsi device via generic layer, which is not possible for scsi disk driver.
Any scsi device for that matter will be having a common scsi layer on top of that right?

scsi disk is just that, disks using scsi
scsi generic is any other device using the scsi interface, such as scanners, disk is a block device whereas generic i believe are character devices if that helps any.
