Question RHEL/CentOS - Hugepages configuration

Hello,

I am going to use hugepages on my RHEL6. I have 6 Oracle db instances on it.

SGA are configured and memories parameters setted to 0.

I would like to know how to calculate the value to use for hugepages (vm.nr_hugepages) regarding to the size of my Oracle instances ?

Now, I setted at 512 the value for hugepages, then dedicated them to the Oracle group (vm.hugetlb_shm_group). Then, for limits, I used a value a bit less than the total physical memory of my server (soft/hard memlock), is that correct ?

Finally, someone can tell me how to calculate values for those kernel parameters : shmall et shmmax ?

Thanks

Please do some research of your own, before posting a question. Going to Oracle's knowledgebase and searching for "how to calculate hugepages" brings up:
https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37670_01...hugepages.html

Since neither Oracle or Red Hat Enterprise are free products to use in a company environment, you are PAYING FOR both of them, right?? Have you contacted Oracle support? Oracle also has much documentation on how to configure RHEL for use with Oracle, which include setting the shmall, shmmax, etc., and Red Hat's knowledgebase ALSO has this information.

Thanks for your answer.

NO, I don't pay for these products, my company yes. Is that a reason to do not ask question about something new to me ?

I did some researches, and I've found this script on another webpage, but the source was not indicated. I didn't want to test it on my server. Now I'll do.

No, but if your company pays, they pay for SUPPORT too, and the BEST people to ask would be the people who WROTE the software and support it. You are PAYING those people to answer ALL your questions...which they can do, along with providing you documentation, explanations, and examples.

If you did do research, you'd have found the answer.
