process priorities in linux kernel

Hi all,
can anybody explain about kernel thread priorities.
if i create a thread using kthread_create(), i am getting -5 as nice value and 115 as priority value. i am unable to figure out the exact range for threads in kernel level and also in user level, and what are all the limits for k-space and u-space.
