Problem with MODPOST while compiling external layer2_module.ko

While building the module after all the .o's are generated an error pops up without any explanation and the .ko is not generated as expected. Can anyone help with what's wrong?

/home/test/abhijeet/linux-26/scripts/mod/modpost -i /home/test/abhijeet/linux-26/Module.symvers -S -K /home/test/abhijeet/linux-26/Module.markers -M ../layer2/Module.markers ../platform/linux/obj/layer2/layer2_module.o
make[1]: *** [../platform/linux/bin/layer2] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/test/abhijeet/ZebOS5/layer2'
make: *** [all-layer2] Error 2
