Problem detecting the ethernet interface
Hi,
I am having problem detecting the eth interface on my linuc machine.
When I say, ifconfig, it doesnt show the eth interface.
How do I bring it up?

have you done a su- to get to root?
You must be root to use that command.
Try that out 1st, the simplest unknowns are always the nicest.
Suse
su
<type your passwowd>
ifconfig
fedora
su-
<password>
ifconfig
Ubuntu
sudo ifconfig
<your password>

Do you know what type of card you have (the chipset not brand)? Is it an ethernet card?

I am having the same problem except I am using ubuntu. I appologize if I am barging in. I just so furstrated at this piont been everywhere trying to find out what to do.
