Question Please guys i really need your help 10x

hello there

I really dont know what has happened... since i've done this one more time and then it ran smoothly. I just installed NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.05-pkg1.run on my kubuntu 7.10 . Last time when i installed it i needed to have installed build-essential from apt.And it worked. Now after i installed the build-ess pakage and the driver, when the computer starts kde command prompt screen shows up instead of starting the X.And i ran as root startX and i have this error message:
"(EE)NVIDIA(0):failed to initialize NVIDIA kernel module
-please ensure that there is a supported NVIDIA GPUin this system and that the NVIDIA device files have been created properly
Screens found but none have a usable configuration "

So now i have no idea what to do...Maybe if i install from the dvd some kernel modules i will be able to do something.Or if you know what is the answer to this problem please let me know. Thank you so mutch.I know i can count on you guys bbye take care
