No rule to make target 'menuconfig' when trying to configure kernel

Hi everyone,

I'm currently trying to compile my own kernel for the first time. So I took my old config, made make oldconfig and then wanted to configure it using make menuconfig.
But when I call this, all I get is

make: *** No rule to make target `menuconfig'. Stop.

I'm using Ubuntu with a 2.6.35-27 kernel and want to compile a 2.6.37.3 kernel

Edit: I'm not quite sure why, but now I got it working.
Actually all I did was make menuconfig in my current version, then tried it again in the new directory...
