New kernel don`t see DVD-ROM

I have Asus X51RL noutbook and ubuntu 8.04 installed on it.
I decicided to update release. First i updated to 8.10. My CD-ROM became unwonrkable. System didn`t see him. Then i updated to 9.04. But my CD still don`t work. I see a short message on boot "ata 1: soft reset failed". I built new kernel and disabled SATA_PMP option, then this error disappeared, but dvd-rom still don`t work.
dvd-works in old kernel. and i don`t know what to do to make him work on new kernel.
Please give advice what to do.
