Need to 'make modules' if add new items as 'Y' but not 'M'?

I supposed this would be self-explanatory, but I'm not too experienced and would like to make positively sure.

I've got a nice, running 2.6.13 kernel, and I wanted to add an option, say, "Device Drivers ---> Graphics ---> Video Selection Mode" and a few others.

I enable all of these things in menuconfig with "Y" to go straight into the kernel.

Now, after I make the kernel itself, do/should I still need to do "make modules, make modules_install", since I didn't technically add any new modules with any "M" options?

Yes you might as well since you will create a new system.map for the kernel that is placed in your /boot. Just incase any of the enabled options had a submenu with modules enabled. Also with the 2.6 kernels you do not need to do the make modules. It is part of the make command now. Only needed in 2.4 kernels and earlier.

make mrproper
make xconfig or make gconfig or make menuconfig or a few others.
make
make modules_install
make install
