Hello All,

I'm looking at setting up a RAID 0 volume for OS and software, and a RAID 1 volume for user space in a 2 SATA disk system. I do not need to have the benefits of dual booting, since it is an exclusively 64 bit Linux workstation (Tyan S7024 with 4 Tesla C1060 cards). I am seeking the truth about the efficiency of the on-board ICH10R controller when operated in RAID mode, as in the Intel® ESRT-2 SATA & SAS Software RAID Driver for Linux (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...18266&lang=eng ), compared to the AHCI mode of operation of the drives paired with a pure software RAID setup using mdadm. I've read various posts and documents that exploring the on-board Intel Matrix Storage Technology can actually be counter productive, wich is not the same impression I get from browsing the ICH10R datasheet (http://www.intel.com/assets/pdf/datasheet/319973.pdf) or Intel® Matrix Storage Technology website(http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets...storage_sb.htm). Even the creator of mdamd, Neil Brown, is referring to the Intel technology, so the messages I'm getting are mixed.

I am aware of Erik_FL's post on a subject close enough to mine, but, so far, I did not find a firm answer to my dilemma. I could use some expert opinion on the matter. Benchmarks would definitely help me out.
