make command not working in opensuse
i am trying to install a new kernel. The first step make mrproper is showing some error that make command is not there with gcc.
can any one help me to compile kernel.
Thank you in advance..
What distro (version) of Linux are you using?
Is gcc installed? (Normally, make would be installed as part of gcc.) Regardless, check with your package manager.
Run the command
see what it outputs, if it does give you some thing like
GNU Make 3.81

Make is installed, else it is not.
Not all versions of opensuse have make (and automake) installed by default (10.3 does, if I remember correctly).
You probably also need to install gcc, g++ and binutils
Use Yast to install them (YaST -> Software -> Software Management).
Hope this helps.
