Kernel updated

Dear All,

I ran this command to install updates up2date -uf , but I realized that this command update the system Kernel , and because I get worried from the new Kernel I edit this file to boot the old Kernel /boot/grub/grub.conf and found the same file under /etc/grub.conf , now which one the system use to boot ?

dose my changes in /boot/grub/grub.conf to boot the old kernel correct ?

the update installed this ver kernel-2.6.9-78.0.5.EL dose this image suffer from problems ? please advice me I'm confused .

Thanks.

Typically, it would use the one in /boot. The one in /etc is probably a symlink.

edited to add: Any kernel that gets upgraded by your package manager is almost definitely very stable & thoroughly tested. The only problem with upgrading may be related to some drivers that were compiled against the old kernel & did not come from the package manager (like Nvidia graphics card or a RAID controller, etc.).
