Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!


My root drive/partition was full and i tried to restart my linux Red hat 4.8 with INIT 0. Then i restarted my server and found the following error : ernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!. Suggest please ..URGENT!

Search in this forum for the approximately 100 posts that tell you what to do about this. Look at messages preceding this one to see why the init process (probably) could not start.

All right, all right ... here's the answer:

init, also known as "process #1," is hand-built by the kernel and it is not allowed to die. This message means, most likely, that it never successfully started. ("attempted to kill" is entirely a misnomer.)

The reason will be found in messages which precede this one. Usually, "reinstall and try again."

The part "not syncing" means that the operating system was not in the middle of a disk-write (good!) when it died.
