kernel panic not syncing
Fresh install of Debian Etch KDE. This a.m. when I tried to boot, I get this message: "kernel panic - not syncing: VFS unable to mount root fs on unknown block (0,0)." When I try to mount this partition from a currently functioning Etch partition , it says "hal-storage-fixed- mount refused UID 1000". Here's my partitioning scheme:
160 GB HD
Partition 1= swap (2gb)
Partition 2= Etch (75gb +/-)
Partition 3= new Etch (75GB +/-)
My plan is/was to turn partition 3 Etch into Lenny. I know I could just install Lenny weekly build but I have a reason for trying to do it this way. Anyway, is it panicking because it is the same kernel or what? And is it recoverable or should I just reinstall straight into Lenny, ie, with a weekly build?
Thx.
