Question kernel panic cant mount root fs in inknown block(0,0)

Hello
i have just set up ubunut 8.04 with two kernels 2.6.24.16 and 2.6.24.19.
For my project i have to implement MPLS_linux module ,so i got kernel source release 2.6.15.1 then i patch it with the module above then i followed the steps of configuration ,compilation and install with the commands bellow :
make menuconfig
make && make mudules && make modules_install && make instal
so the following files were created in /boot:
config-2.6.15.1
System.map-2.6.15.1
vmlinux-2.6.15.1
for the initrd file i created it manually with the commande :
mkinitramfs -o /boot/initrd-2.6.15.1 2.6.15.1
so the file initrd-2.6.15.1 was addes in the /boot .
when i dispaly /boot/grub/menu.list it gives:
title Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-19-generic

Every thing seems to be ok. I doubt U haven't selected the required modules when u done make menuconfig. Instead try to use the current kernel configuration by typing make defconfig
