I have a really nasty wireless keyboard and mouse combo. It's not really compatible with anything, but here's what I've gotten to work with it:

* Ubuntu 5.04 works perfectly, but I don't have Internet on it so I haven't tried 6.06.
* Slackware: the keyboard works IIRC, but the mouse doesn't. With USB driver, it will only move right and I have no control over it.
* SLAX, just a sec--let me check right now. Everything works.
* LFS LiveCD: keyboard works (through BIOS), but not mouse.

What module/feature do I need to add to a custom-compiled kernel to get it to work with this hardware setup?

It may be an xorg.conf problem. Post whay kind of mouse and keyboard they are.

It's not an xorg problem, because the same happens at command line with the command line mouse driver whose name eludes me at the moment.

It's a Memorex RF7000 though (both came in the same box).

EDIT: Never mind, I figured it out...GPM was looking at something other than /dev/input/mice , and I got X working by pointing it there also with IMPS/2.

I have a HP m7580n which has wireless USB keyboard/mouse. I think it's stopping me from installing any thing. I get this psmouse error saying sync error throwing out n bytes. Is this part of your problem too ? how did you get around it ? I tried ubuntu 6.06.. no luck.. blank screen. CentOS SuSE both complain about this mouse. maybe I should try SLAX ?
