Is the ACPI kernel driver working in my system?

Hi:
How do know if the ACPI kernel driver is working in my system. I can give you the output of the following commands:

semoi@dark_star:~$ ls -l /proc/acpi/event
-r-------- 1 root root 0 2010-06-03 07:47 /proc/acpi/event
semoi@dark_star:~$ file /proc/acpi/event
/proc/acpi/event: empty
semoi@dark_star:~$

Any hint will be welcome.

How about "cat /proc/acpi/event"? The file command print out file type, don't dumping file content.

Thanks for your kind reply.
Output of 'cat /proc/acpi/event' is 'Device or resource busy'. Also,
# ps -e
84 ? 00:00:00 kacpid
2929 ? 00:00:00 acpid
#

This, immediately after booting and before running the X server. Kernel version is 2.6.21.5.

If you want to check history ACPI event, you have to stop ACPI deamon.

GNU/linux kernel 2.6, slackware 12.0

Thanks for your reply. This is what I did.
# cd /etc/init.d
# acpid stop
acpid: can't open /proc/acpi/event: Device or resource busy.

Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks again.

The ACPI deamon in your system is wrong. You can check your boot-up log whether any clue can be found.

Well, the result is that one of last lines is

Starting ACPI daemon: /usr/sbin/acpid

But no error message is output after this line. The next line is

Starting system message bus: .........

One more thing: if I enter the GUI, in Control Center>Power Control, all of the options are for laptops. But mine is a desktop. Isn't this odd.

Thanks.
