installing packages that comes with the kernel
Hi guys,
Newbee question again :) I just install Slackware 12 in my box. I did a full install but just so happen I didn't include samba along with all other packages during fresh install. I know I have it already in my hard drive but I need to know how to compile or enable it or install it right from the very beginning. Could somebody give me a simple step by step how to install it and also an idea how to start it after the installation? I'll play the configuration myself once installed. Thanks in advance. |
Use your Slackware CD/DVD and "installpkg samba-3.0.25b-i486-1" then afterwards you can make sure it's executable by issuing "chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.samba" and start samba by issuing "/etc/rc.d/rc.samba start" -- all as root, of course.

Thanks a lot Bruce. I installed samba the way you post the procedure. Now I can access my WinXP box and vice versa.
