How to disable PREEMPT and/or SMP kernel mode on OpenSuse 10.2

Hello!

I'd like to install a Ralink RT61 WLAN driver from SerialMonkey, but I need to disable the PREEMPT and/or SMP kernel mode on my system. Therefore I'll need to (re-)compile the kernel (2.6.18-34). I couldn't find a good HowTo for this - can you help?

I tried 'make xconfig' in /usr/src/linux and changed the values above...

OpenSuSE comes with about five different kernels already compiled and ready to run. You just need to select the correct one at boot time. You can change the default boot configuration by editing the file named /boot/grub/menu.lst. Make a copy if it before you change it.

Cool

I have generated a new kernel based on the kernel installed on my system. I wrote two HowTos (one in English, one in German). I'll upload these in the 'Articles' section...
