How accurate is config.gz in representing the reliability of the kernel functions?

I understand that the /proc/config.gz or /boot/config.gz (maybe other places in other OSes), show what the kernel "supports". How accurate are these files in stating the actual supportability, stability, and reliability of the workings of these kernel features or components (not sure what the right word should be here.

Thanks,
kawhyte

All it shows you is how the kernel was built - which compile-time options were selected, etc.

Definitely good information to know (I'm not aware of any equivalent with any flavor of MS Windows, for example ), but a far cry from "Stating the actual supportability, stability, and reliability of the workings of these kernel features or components...".

'Hope that helps .. PSM
