High Resolution Timer Support????

Hello People,
I just finished re-installing the latest version of Slackware (12.2). I'm going through the motions and refreshing my memory since it has been about a year since I last updated my system. Anyway, I'm in the most time consuming part imo, compiling my kernel. I've got a few questions regarding some of the options but I will start with one, HRTS....

All I can find is what it says in the kernel help section, where it reads:
Quote:
CONFIG_HIGH_RES_TIMERS: x
x x
x This option enables high resolution timer support. If your x
x hardware is not capable then this option only increases x
x the size of the kernel image. x
x x
x Symbol: HIGH_RES_TIMERS [=n] x
x Prompt: High Resolution Timer Support x
x Defined at kernel/time/Kconfig:17 x
x Depends on: GENERIC_TIME && GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS x
x Location: x
x -> Processor type and features x
x Selects: TICK_ONESHOT x
x x
x
I am not sure if I need this or not. Can anyone help point me in the right direction so I can learn what this and other items in the kernel mean???

thanks,
sp

Probably not the easiest of all reading, but it might be what you are looking for Ok, it seems I can't post a link because it's my first post So, type "Kernel Documentation" in google and the first link will be for the Documentation page of kernel.org
As for the HPET, I think most modern computer have one but you can make sure by checking your bios I think. As an example, I just finished installing Gentoo on a little Atom 330 motherboard and I had an option in the bios giving me the possibility to enable/disable the HPET.
Sorry not to be able to be more precise but I hope it does help you a bit

Thanks for the Kernel Documentation Google search, TheAbu. This looks really nice.
