Error in compiling kernel 2.6

Hi,

I am trying to compile kernel 2.6 which is controlled in clearcase. This kernel is part of the SDK provided by the third party vendor. Not sure what changes it has from native one. When I try to compile it, it fails in removing some of the soft link in a given directory throwing "read-only file system' error. These links are not the part of the vob server .Also they have permission +777. I cant even delete this link manually.

Any idea what could be wrong here ? ;-(

Cheers !!
Anant

Hi,
We would need much more info in order to help with this.

What distribution and version is this? What is the full version of the kernel (2.6 is only the start of the version name).
So where did you get this kernel? Isn't it the one provided by the distribution?

MOns

What is the underlying file system?

Does it support symlinks?

Are you trying to do this over the network (e.g. on a share hosted on a Windows machine)?

Does anything show up in the kernel message log?
