[SOLVED] Dracut: switching root -- and hangs

I was running yum to uninstall the mgetty package when the process hung. I switched off the computer and when I started it up again, it didn't boot. I removed the "rhgb" and "quiet" options from the kernel command line in grub.conf to see what was happening. First dracut told me to put selinux=0 in the command line. I did this and then it told me: "dracut: switching root" and hung. It looks like I need to reinstall my Fedora 12 packages before I can continue to boot. How do I do this?

Boot from a live cd and chroot to your F12 installation. If I were in your position, I'd backup my current initramfs file in /boot, use dracut to create a new initramfs file, verify the initramfs filename in /boot/grub/grub.conf, then reboot. Of course, just because that's what I'd do doesn't mean it would work.

Thanks for the good advice. I think it might have worked. However, I was stressed for time and about 2 hours before your post, I mounted /dev/mapper/LVM... I then backed up everything I cold think of and installed Fedora 14. I now got my basic services operational and am busy installing all the software I had.
