Angry cx88-dvb tuning problem.

My problem starts with the 2.6.35 and continues with 2.6.36 kernel.

I have a KWORLD atsc120 tv card in my system, and have had no problems with it up to the 2.6.34.7 kernel releases. It uses the CX88-dvb, xc2028/3028, and s5h1409 kernel modules. If I compile and start up with the newer kernels, I cannot get the card to lock on to any channels in any of my tv viewing programs (MythTv, Kaffeine, Xine, or Mplayer). All the modules under the newer kernels compile and load without errors or unusual messages, firmware to the card loads properly, and the only thing unusual in /var/log/messages is that I get in rather large quantities:

Oct 21 08:00:06 slackware kernel: cx88[0]: Calling XC2028/3028 callback
Oct 21 08:00:37 slackware last message repeated 28 times

Oct 21 08:11:48 slackware last message repeated 54 times
Oct 21 08:12:18 slackware last message repeated 27 times

Under older kernels, I generally got "repeats" of 5 or 6 times.

My only fix is to copy my "old" bzImage and kernel modules (2.6.34.7) back to their proper locations, reboot, and the card works like a champ again.

Tried posting in linuxtv mailing lists, but got no responses.

Any help would be appreciated!

Can you do diff on .config for kernels 2.6.34.7 when the card works, and newer, when it not work, maybe some options are unchecked? Did you tried orginal newest kernel from packages?

Old Kernel: 2.6.34.7
New Kernel: 2.6.36

That was my first thought, and I did check all my settings in menuconfig to see if something was amiss, didn't find anything. I did the diff as you suggested, found that in the old kernel, IR-Core was compiled into the kernel, new kernel was set up as module. Changed new config, recompile & reboot, same problem.

Just for giggles, I did an lsmod for each kernel and dumped the outputs into text files. Module list order is slightly different, but there is one glaring difference:

Module Size Used by
old kernel: cx88_dvb 20798 15
new kernel: cx88_dvb 20782 0

The differences in the "used by" section is disturbing!

The problems started with the 2.6.35 kernel.
