.config mconf and the like

So what I am doing is building my own embedded linux. This all works fine and dandy until I try to add my own kconfig stuff in the menu.

I have my own set of character drivers and proc drivers. Everytime I change the .config file and check it in, it rebuilds the config.

Let me explain a litte.

I have a top level makefile script that makes everything...

Ramdisk
applications
kernel

Let's say I change something in the kernel, so I do:

make xconfig

do my changes

and it changes the file .config

I move .config to my file... default_kernel_config

my toplevel make file moves default_kernel_config to .config and then I do a "make -C kernel_2.6"

If I've added something, I get a message

"Restart config .... "

message from mconf.

Anyone know how to stop this? I just want it to take the default option.

I've tried make oldconfig, make silentoldconfig those don't seem to work.

And being that I'm not a pro a mconf or kconfig I'm sure it's pretty easy I just don't know what file it is comparing itself to.

Sorry for being so long winded.. just hope I made sense.

Thanks
