Can a PCI device communicate with another device attached to the bus system?

Hello,

Can a PCI device(say a card with general purpose CPU) communicate with another device(lets say a NIC or hard disk) directly without CPU intervention?

Thanks,
Srinivas

There was an article recently about a specially constructed PC that was running at real supercomputer speeds. They did it by using a motherboard with 7 or 8 PCI-E slots, all populated with high-end Nvidia video cards. They were using the GPUs in the video boards as individual computers in an HPC configuration of some type to image CT scans in real time, I think it was. I think they had to be communicating with each other.

See the CUDA pages on the nvidia website:

Here's a copy of the article I was thinking about. How they implemented the parallelism and whether the PC's CPU was in control or what, I don't know. But if there's a project where the cards talk to each other, I would think this would be it.
