Can't compile FC19 kernel

Hello,

I attempted to compile a kernel for my FC19 system (3.14.4-100.fc19.x86_64)
in order to add the HPFS support which I need for some old WARP3 disk.
The last time I did this was quite a long time ago (and under FC17).
I looked at the "howtos", like:

http://www.pacificsimplicity.ca/blog/compiling-fedora-16-kernel

but noticed that there is no changing of the kernel identification
string, like in some other places:

http://www.pacificsimplicity.ca/blog/compiling-fedora-16-kernel

(which looks VERY old).

I attempted to do the process descrived at the first URL
with the addition of manually editing the "Makefile"
and setting the EXTRAVERSION to ".hpfs".

After running "make", "make modules", the "make install"
failed claiming it can't find the /lib/modules/3.14.4.hpfs
directory. I thought I can solve it by creating a link
by that name pointing to the "/lib/modules" created
previously but I still run into problems with "make instal".

Where can I find a kernel compilation guide for FC19 that is
up to date?

TIA,

Sounds like you skipped make modules_install. This creates the directory and installs the modules in it.

I think I used fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel recently to do a quick hack on F20 kernel.
No problems for me.

Hi, thanks for the replies!

After browsing through the few bookmarks I kept about building
a kernel I also came to

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel?rd=Docs/CustomKernel

and managed to create the kernel with some customization (HPFS support).

Now I'll try doing something I never did: altering the sources of the
xc5000 driver to try debugging the I2C failures I'm getting with the
TV tuner card. At first I attempted to turn ON 3 debugging parameters
of the I2C but got 100% CPU usage of systemd and dmesg output became unusable.

Thatks for the help!
