Booting or Kernel Problem in OpenSuSE 10
hi, i guys, i am an elderly user of Linux especially of SuSE (Almost 6 years elder). SuSE , although is a very stable Linux but recently i got a problem .
i purchased a New Notebook of HP zv5000 Pavilion Model. I installed OpenSuSE 10 (x86) on it, installation goes very smooth, cool and quiet. But when i got the Boot Option Splash Screen (SuSE Linux 10, Windows, SuSE Linux 10 (FailSafe)) I choose 1st Option ( SuSE Linux 10 ) as usally i do when working on my Desktop. But as i Press Enter, Nothing happens, I got Blank screen , no activity in HDD, as a result i restart my notebook from on/off switch, next time same happens..... But Last Option " Fail Safe " Does work properly, But it takes me into 3rd runlevel not in 5th runlevel. I want to get FULL ACCESS THROUGH First Option, DON't want Fail Safe. What is the solution ? ? ? I feel there is something wrong in Kernel installation Image or ...... ? ? ? ? Where the things go wrong..........please let me know. regards. |
It sounds like there is a problem with the loading of the X Server, and your display drivers. I have had a similiar issue before.
What kind of video card are you using? Are the drivers up-to-date? Have you enabled 3D acceleration, or Are you using the Mesa drivers that come with SuSE? Are you able to start the X server from the FAILSAFE mode? What does your /etx/X11/xorg.conf look like? I need to know your laptop's specs too. |
Yes, It seems X Server Causes the problem, My display Driver seems ok expept one thing, In SAX2 , It shows ATI Drivers but with different series, It means, My Display driver in notebook is " ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP " and SAX2 Shows, " ATI 3550 ".
Drivers are which are installed by OpenSuSE 10 by default. I checked , 3D is avtivated or Enabled. So far as concern to the Monitor, In monitors list, i got my " zv5000 " under " HP " . I got appropriate Resolution ( 1200 x 800 with 24 BIT colors ) It is wider screen. Last, VERY SURPRISINGLY, In safe mode, for the first time it takes me to Run level 3 (Command Mode) but then give " init 5 " command it entered into Graphical Mode without any hitch. |
Complete Specifications of My notebook are :
HP Pavilion zv5000 Notebook. Inter Pentium IV 3.0 GhZ 512 RAM. 60 GB HDD ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP DVD Burner. Broadcom Wi-Fi LAN, Modem 15.4" Wider Screen etc. |
In failsafe mode, a lot of hardware-related settings are restricted or switched off completely. Have a look at /boot/grub/menu.lst for a list of used boot options. I suggest to test them one by one with the standard (1st) boot entry, starting with acpi=off.
These options may either be modified in menu.lst directly, or passed to the kernel temporarily by pressing F3 on the boot screen and typing the parameter in the appearing field. I don't think it's the X server that causes the problem, as this should not affect the early boot process. It may be the framebuffer driver (console graphics), but the fact that it doesn't boot at all makes this unlikely as well. |
I'll try all vmimages soon, and LET YOU KNOW in Thread Reply.
