Zip Drive Help, PCI parallel port

I have read and tried the instructions on mounting a parallel port zip drive at http://www.justlinux.com/nhf/Hardwar...Zip_Drive.html but i still have a problem. Lightning fried the parallel port on my mobo so i have a pci parallel port that i have the zip drive and subsequently the printer connected to. i think that causes me to be unable to mount /dev/sda4 as it says that it is not a valid block device. any help on what i should do? thanks. btw it is a zip 100 plus which i think uses a diff driver anyway, and im using rh8.
