Yet Another "Cannot Change Screen Resolution", Intel iMac

After completely demolishing apt on my MEPIS box, I decided to give Debian a try. So far, I was able to install X11 and KDE easily, but the screen resolution is a low 1024x768.

Currently, I am using an Intel iMac (17 inch budget $995 model without a graphics card, NOT the new aluminum one), and running Debian Etch. With MEPIS, the OS was able to easily set my screen resolution correctly, so it is a matter of whether I have the right drivers.

And yes, I have searched around, and editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf and using dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg didn't do any good. I can post my xorg.conf if you like, but it's pretty typical.

Anyone else with similar experiences?

I have VERY little experience with Linux but I had a similar problem and my "resolution 640x480 no other option in preferences" thread on LQ newbie forum 21st October (or rather the replies to it!) might help you. Best of luck!
