Xsane freezes - Scanner:HP PSC 1315v - Driver:hplip

I finally got my HP PSC 1315v printer to work after getting all the dependinces installed and then the HPLIP driver. When I run Xsane it finds my Scanner just fine but if I try to "acquire preview" or "scan" it is just freezes on me and I have to force quit the program. Once it closes after a force quit if I try to run it again it won't, I have to reboot the computer inorder to open Xsane again. I searched the internet for a solution but have found nothing. Some threads I have read suggest to disable "quality calbriation" in the "standard options window". When I open the "standard options window" all I get is text saying "SANE" there are no options to check/un-check. After Xsane freezes on me I get this messeage in dmesg:

printer.c: usblp0: nonzero read/write bulk status received: -2

I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could give me. I am using slackware 10.1
I first tired this with the Xsane that Slackware installed for me durring the OS installation which was Xsane version 0.96. Then I thought maybe if I unistalled Xsane with pkgtool and then install the newer 0.97 version it might fix the problem, but it didn't.

It may be the driver. I have a PSC 1210 and it works fine under HPOJ. you might have to disable some stuff in the config.
