Xorg won't start on ATI Radeon 7000 (PCI)

Hello. I just changed my graphics card to a ATI Radeon 7000 (PCI), and now X11 won't start. I ran dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg to update the xorg.conf file, but the problem is still there.

Here are my xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files:

Code:
# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

I tried your suggestion, but I still got the same problem.

Here is what the output is when I type startx (with both configurations):

It seems that your chipset is not supported by the radeon drivers, tried VESA?

Cool

Turn off computer. Unplug the wall power<115 volts USA>. Open the case. Take out the Graphics Adapter and reinsert. Press down slowly and fully all the way into the slot. It is fragile, so be g-e-n-t-l-e. Wiggle the Card gently. See any dust? Cleaning is a good way to keep the system cool. Close the case if YOU are sure that all the connections are correct. Then plug the power in again. Wait...IMO I personally wait a minute between powering on or off devices that are on the same circuit breaker in a home. Thats what works for me. If YOU have high amperage circuit breakers, feel free to place all YOUR plugins on the same power strip. After turning on the computer, enter BIOS. Check all the items. The closer YOU get to the correct settings, the better the computer performance will match YOUR expectations. Look at Graphics settings. They may need to be changed. A larger graphics aperture will run better. A smaller graphics aperture will give YOU more RAM to use with other programs. YOU decide, screens vs. applications...the daily battle.

I know that the card is inserted correctly; if I boot into Mac OS X, the card works perfectly. It's only when I boot into linux that I have problems. The card does not function at all. The system tries auto-configuring the Xorg settings (screen goes on and off a few times), then a message appears that Xorg could not be started.

Is VESA capable of 3d acceleration? I have a working nvidia GeForce MX 2 in the machine now, but since my computer is a powerpc, I have to use the nv driver, which works fine except there is no 3d acceleration. Should I continue to use the GeForce with the nv driver, or should I try switching to the Radeon with the vesa driver (I am away from my computer now, so I can't test to see if the vesa driver will work with my system and card)?

Edit: Or, is there some way to get 3d acceleration with a nvidia card on ppc? I read that the utah-glx project had some success, however the project looks like it has not been updated in a while and I am worred that it will not work with newer versions of Xorg. Does anyone know if utah-glx will be able to provide 3d acceleration on my setup (GeForce MX 2 on Powerpc with a recent Xorg).
