I've just installed Zenwalk Linux 4 for the third time. Everything seems okay, but I just can't seem to get the latest ATI drivers (8.29.6) working.
I've followed the Zenwalk Wiki's instructions multiple times (including the kernelsource part), yet X still won't load.
ATI says they support Xorg 7.1, and I've been able to successfully use 8.29.6 drivers on Ubuntu Edgy. Also, I've heard some people have successfully used 7.1+8.29.6 in Fedora 6.
Does anyone have any suggestions for Zenwalk 4?

I've just recently (about 1 month ago) made the switch from XP Media Center, to Linux for good. Despite the troubles, I'm never going back, and I'm glad to have found this great resource. Thanks for reading.
I don't know, but ATI has already a newer version, 8.31, which I am very sure does work on X 7.1. I don't know how well 8.29 works... I only used that one on X 7.0.
If your xorg.conf is configured ok, I'd say try to update the driver, otherwise, I don't know
The radeon module that comes with Xorg 7.1 has support for 3D acceleration through hardware. Also it includes rage theater support too. Though this what I saw from just compiling Xorg 7.1.
Both XFree86 and Xorg has more reliable and stable software than what ATI has to offer.
Spherical: It seems that the 8.31 driver is for standard Radeon cards. Will this work with a Mobility Radeon? And, does 3D acceleration work for you?
Electro: How would I go about manually (or automaticlaly?) configuring XFree86/Xorg? (videoconfig, xorgconfig, xf86config?), and/or what all would I need to change in my xorg.conf file to use the radeon module (changing "vesa" to "radeon" didn't work). I'm all for using non-proprietary drivers.
