Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Xinerama Errors with Dell and Sun Monitors

Greetings all. I have a problem with my dual monitor setup.

I completed the HOWTO but it still gives me grief. I got Xinerama to work with default settings, but when I tried to increase the resolution and color depth of my primary monitor (The Dell) and all it could do was increase my color depth. It seems stuck at 800x600.

So I tried to edit my xf86config file using pico (I can't seem to get the hang of vi). I removed the color depths that I didn't want and left the color depth of 24 (which I assume is 24bit color). And I added the Modes entry in that color depth only. Here's the kicker, my changes keep getting overridden and I can't get past that 800x600 limit.

And I can't even get to the settings for my Sun Monitor from the Display menu. It's stuck at 800x600 at 256 colors. I'm assuming this from appearances. And it seems like there are two different X sessions open. One for the Dell and one for the Sun. And they are seperate enough to not allow the workspaces to interact with each other (aka Applications cannot move from monitor to monitor).

Can some one please? I posted my XF86Config file below.

Thanks,
CMF
