Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Xerox Phaser 6000b driver scirt needed

I have not yet installed Fedora 22 - or any other version of Fedora. I'm currently using a 64 bit version of Linux Mint . I'd like to revisit Fedora after some years absence , but am chary of doing so if it won't support my hardware - basically my printer .
I have a Xerox Phaser 6000b colour laser printer . Xerox does supply drivers for both Debian and Red Hat distros but these are all 32 bit . On any derivative of Ubuntu I run the command :- sudo apt-get install lib32stdc++6 libcupsimage2:i386 , which duly instals the necessary 32 bit libraries . The usual printer screen is the used to install the printer .
Is anything like this possible with Fedora ? If so, what will the command be ? I accept that this may seem a trivial question to experienced Fedora users , but I'm not within that fortunate group. Help needed .

A quick check of the available drivers

http://www.support.xerox.com/support...Language=en_GB

and it is mentioned that the RPM is suitable for 32-bit and 64-bit systems
Quote:
RPM package for 32 and 64-bit versions of RedHat and Suse. After installing the printer package, create the print queue in CUPS.
No compiling is necessary, so you should be okay to install. (I managed to install it on my openSUSE 13.1 64-bit system without issue.)

FWIW, here's the files contained...

Code:
# rpm -ql Xerox-Phaser_6000_6010-1.0-1
/usr/lib/cups/filter/Xerox_Phaser_6000_6010/XRM_AL5CB
/usr/lib/cups/filter/Xerox_Phaser_6000_6010/XRM_CC

This thread might be relevant to you as well. It has a post from a Fedora user (median) that mentioned
Quote:
In my case the key was the missing libcups.so.2 but in a 32bit version required by the driver. By default, a 64-bit system installs only 64-bit version of this library.
It is necessary to install cups-libs.i686 explicitly. From that time the printer works fine.
So, make sure that you have that package installed first. The equivalent package for openSUSE is 'cups-libs-32bit' and I have that installed already. Hope this helps.
