x86-64 Kernel compile ---> i only get 32-bit
Hi all
this must be a silly question but.... I've compiled a 2.6.7-ck4 kernel on an Athlon 64 laptop and i've been disappointed to see that, even if I check "Athlon 64" in "processor family", I get a 32-bit kernel... in particular, the kernel image is stored in arch/i386, and not in arch/x86_64 as I expected... so could you explain me what I need to do in order to get a 64-bit kernel ? besides i'm running slackware so there's no precompiled 64-bit kernel. thanks PS : could this have anything to do with the -ck patchset ?? PS : additional question : i'd like to make Nvidia drivers run. Is it enough that I get a 64-bit kernel and the AMD64 nv drivers, or must I recompile more stuff into 64-bit.... like xorg ?? |
I am having the same problem here... didn't notice any difference after upgrading to a 2.6.6 kernel...
If Ben2210 hadn't mention about the image being stored in arch/i386, i'd still be in the dark about my redhat not running in 64-bit... :D |
