X wont detect Geforce6800 properly

ok... i just got myself a brand new computer
Athlon 64 3500+
Asus A8V deluxe

with a nice Geforce 6800+

I then installed Mandrake x86 10.1 and "configured" my system.
Somehow when tested the configuration of the detected 6800 drivers i have an nice x error message that looks like:

(EE) Device not found

So i checked if agp was enabled and it seems to be compiled into my kernel which is a good thing. Then i checked found in x logs that it is scanning for a PCI device. The question is: how can i make it look on the agp bridge??

Here are the related file entries:

dmesg | grep agp:

agpgart: Detected AGP bridge 0
agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for AGP memory: 941 M
agpgart: AGP aperture is 64M @ 0xdc000000

tail -15 /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[...]
(II) Primary device is: PCI 01:00:0
(EE) No devices detected

Fatal server error:
No screens found

Please consult the X.org foundation support ...

Go to www.nvidia.com, click on the "download drivers" in the top nav bar,
click the "Linux and FreeBSD Drivers" link, download and install "Linux IA64" drivers. Follow the directions in the readme to configure your X system to recognize the card, and restart X.

The problem is my computer is not yet connected to the internet.
I was planning to get the driver from the net, burning it to a cd and then installing...

btw, wouldn't AMD64 drivers be more suitable?

Ok so i changed nv driver to vesa in order to get an ugly but working desktop.
I also downloade the nvidia drivers from nvidia.com, and transfered them via floppies on my computer.

I installed the drivers and then tried to startx... but now it complains about not being able to load nvidia kernel so i have to modprobe nvidia all the time before being able to startx

[edit]
More info coming soon
