I just installed Slack 9 on my new latitude. It has a 15' display with the geforce 440go 64mb card. The problem is that my desktop is about 8 x 5 inches centered in my display. I have it set to 1600x1200 in my config. I have never run into this problem. I have tried different resolutions which make the display even smaller.
I apologize for any typos, I need a microscope to see my browser.
Its actually because of the monitor frequencies
Change them /etc/X11/XF86config file and everything will be ok
( i actually uncommented the horiz... and vertical frequencies lines and it automatically became alright. might not work for u but sure worked for me!)
hmm, you could give this a try....go to your bios and check if there is a option called Stretch screen or something similar, i have that on my Toshiba Satellite, and it worked out for me.
Alright, thanks for the ideas. It is a laptop and I bought it used. I do not know exactly what kind of monitor it is so I cannot refer to manufacturers documentation to get the proper settings. I would never have guessed that it could be related to frequency settings so I will definately try some others settings
