Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.

I'm not sure if it's the same problem as I've had in the past, but I've gotten past this in other Linux distros by running 'sax2 -r'. That command doesn't seem to be present in Slackware though.

It doesn't sound like you have the nvidia kernel module loaded. Did you boot to the same kernel you installed it on?

Try "lsmod | grep nvidia".

Hi -

Jschiwal is right - the first thing you want to do is see if you've got an NVidia driver ... and if not, download and install one.

The equivalent of Suse "sax2 -r" in Slackware is "xorgconfig". This page might help:
http://www.slackware.com/config/x.php

This page is for OpenBSD (not Slackware) ... but it's got some good info, lots of screenshots, and should be applicable:
http://www.math.colostate.edu/~reinh...bsd/xorg1.html

Finally:
http://www.basicconfig.com/linuxtips...lackware_linux

'Hope that helps .. PSM

Because Slackware boots through LILO in my setup, I can't really tell if the new or old kernel is being booted, but here's the output from the command you gave me:

Code:
nvidia 9585672 0
agpgart 29256 1 nvidia

I tried one of the configuration utilities on the first site you gave me. It generated a new xorg.conf file and now I'm able to get past the error message.

Unfortunately, though, even though KDE loads up and I can hear the startup music, nothing is displayed on my screen.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

You have a conflict with an onboard graphics chip.
Add a line

BusID "PCI:3:0:0"
