X crashes on use of GL program
If I launch glx gears, blender, etc X crashes and reloads.
I'm using Fedora 7 - upgraded from FC6 and nVidia driver from livna. livna's nVidia drivers have served me well for the life of FC6. (And maybe FC5, I don't remember) I have a dual screen setup and Fedora's setup utility refused to allow me to set it up whether it was with nv, noveau, or nVidia. So I used nVidia's utility to make my xorg.conf. I think it's possible something is missing from there. here's my xorg.conf: Code:
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings |
I think it might be a bad nvidia driver. But if you notice anything wrong in the xorg, let me know.
Here's the rpms I have installed:(and the search I used) rpm -qa *nvidia* kmod-nvidia-1.0.9762-1.2.6.21_1.3194.fc7 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-1.0.9762-2.lvn7 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-devel-1.0.9762-2.lvn7 Confusingly enough, kmod-nvidia-1.0.9762-1.2.6.21_1.3194.fc7 is provided by linvna, according to rpm -qi. Who knows why they chose to change their naming scheme for this? Anyway, I uninstalled and reinstalled the rpms, just in case. Something appears to be wrong with the nvidia driver. If it helps, here are the glx rpms I have installed: (and the search I used) rpm -qa *glx* glx-utils-6.5.2-10.fc7 rss-glx-kde-0.8.1.p-6.fc6 rss-glx-0.8.1.p-6.fc6 glitz-glx-devel-0.5.6-5.fc7 rss-glx-xscreensaver-0.8.1.p-6.fc6 glitz-glx-0.5.6-5.fc7 rss-glx-gnome-screensaver-0.8.1.p-6.fc6 |
YES/darn.....
It automagically fixed itself. I'm not happy about that because I don't know how to fix this in the future and neither do any readers who come here. The only thing that I *maybe* did differently was add another EndSection to my xorg.conf - but I'm not 100% sure that wasn't there before. (When I tried something I had to redo the xorg.conf and then copied from here, so I may have copied to here wrong or copied from here wrong) It was missing an EndSection at the end of xorg.conf. Well, since I use Blender a lot, I'm glad that's fixed. But how annoying....I mean, I'm glad it's fixed but any of you true linux types will also be dissapointed. |
