Question writing to USB device

Hi Gurus,

I am having problems writing to my USB stick.
It opens automatically as system:/media/sdb

I have changed /etc/fstab as follows ...

usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0 devmode=666

and then run mount -a, but I still have problems writing to it.

I have also tried using .....

chmod 777 -R /media/disk/fpc

but that gives “Read-only file system” for every file ...

Anybody got anty ideas ?

regards,

Steven Matthews

what distro are you using?
why did you edit fstab? I don't think this is done there, but in /etc/mtab by the OS upon insertion/removal of the drive. it looks like a similar syntax but I don't think mtab should be edited manually.

try to somehow open it as root, may be you need to change permissions.

This is what I have in my fstab for USB stick:

Code:
/dev/sdb /mnt/zip auto noauto,users 0 0
It depends on your distro tho. You may have to add yourself to some groups such as plugdev.
