would like to buy a cd writer
 
has anybody some experince (good or bad) with some sort of cd - writer?
which should i buy ?
which is the most compatible to linux?

i would have to say go with a Plextor.

I use a Sony - never had a problem with it in Linux (yet).

Has the Suse website got a 'supported hardware' link which may help....?

I think all of the major and even more minor nonames are supported. I have a cyberdrive and it's great, but it's by no means a major brand name etc, ... IF you can afford the drive though, get the newest Plextor PlexWriter it's a 40/12/40!! Can you believe 40 spead cd-rs? fast!! it's about a $170 drive.
