WNA1000M wireless usb micro-adapter

I'm generally new to linux, but I've had puppy on-and-off for a couple of years and I've learned how to navigate it for the most part, and this is just something I haven't been able to figure out. I'm using Lucid Puppy 5.2.8 on my usb flash drive, and I have a wna1000m netgear wireless adapter. I have the micro-adapter plugged into one of my usb slots, and puppy doesn't seem to be detecting it. Do I need a certain driver for it? How do I teach my puppy to register this as a mode of internet connection so that i can finish the installation?

I'm sorry, I don't know what that means.

Start a terminal, type
Code:

lsusb
into it and press the Enter key. The command will generate some output, post that output here.

This one is your network device and the USB ID database is stating that it uses a Realtek RTL8188CUS chip, which should be supported by recent kernels. Sadly, Puppy 5.2.8 uses kernel 2.6.33.2. Try it with Puppy Linux 5.3.3, it uses the much newer 3.1.1.

sweet, thanks! i didn't realize i had an outdated version of puppy, i looked everywhere and the newest i could find was lupu5.2.8

TobiSGD 09-23-2012 01:25 PM

The newer versions are based on Slackware (slacko) instead of Ubuntu (lupu). You can download the newest versions here: http://puppylinux.org/main/Download%...%20Release.htm
