LinuxQuestions.org - WMP54GX support? kernel panic....

Hello-
I've been trying for quite some time to get ndiswrapper to work with my wireless card under linux. I use gentoo linux with a 2.6.11 kernel and would of course normally install using emerge (portage) but since wireless is my only mode of internet I no longer have that option. I was forced to download ndiswrapper and wpa supplicant (along with needed packages) via source and compile. Everything seems to work properly when I scan and run ifconfig -a however on connecting to the access point and unloading the drivers (via modprobe -r ndiswrapper) my kernel panics. I must note that since there are no drivers listed on the ndiswrapper wiki I was forced to try the drivers supplied by the manufacturer, obviously this didn't work. Oddly enough the drivers load fine.
The card I'm attempting to use is a Linksys WMP54GX with a PCI ID of 17cb:0001. I originally figured that there would be a driver available since this isn't exactly a bleeding edge "latest and greatest" PCI wireless card, but considering it's one of the best and most expensive on the market I can now understand why this may not be as available.
So my question is: is it possible or has anybody gotten this particular wireless card to work using ndiswrapper or for that matter in linux at all? I would really appreciate any helpful response possible, because right now I'm limited to internet in windoze (which I only have for gaming) and would really love to have internet available in linux again. My appreciation and thanks for any assistance available. Please ask if there's any more information needed

for those that are interested: I did send a nice letter to Linksys re: their policy on providing linux drivers. After all, if nVidia is willing to do it why can't Linksys? I encourage all Linksys hardware owners who use linux to do the same. If they realize how much money they can lose form linux users maybe they will change their mind (idealistic? maybe, but it's worth a shot).
